#87: 3 Techniques Will Help You to Rebalance Yourself!
The mind is an amazing place.
The more we research what goes on in the brain, the more we discover how much our thoughts and attitudes will shape our success. The problem is it's so easy to fall out of balance in our life, dedicating thought and action too much to one thing over another.
When this happens, we start floundering and feeling like we don't know which direction to focus next. When this happens, we must find a way to get ourselves back on track. Here, let's look at three different exercises designed to help you rebalance yourself.
Practice Pomodoros
While sometimes it's good to focus heavily on one area, this kind of attention over a long period will quickly lead to burnout. It also keeps you from getting done what you need. The Pomodoro Technique encourages you to take a five-minute break every half hour initially, then moving you to a half-hour break after every four half-hour period. The idea is to do something completely different during these breaks, such as get up, move around, and switch your mind to something relaxing. Your brain needs this break, so it's vital not to allow yourself to think about work while taking this break.
Experiment with Crop Rotation
Just as you can't grow the same thing repeatedly in a field without affecting the soil quality, you shouldn't always work on the same thing without variation. With crop rotation as a technique, you change things much as a farmer does by doing different things at different times. Try setting your day or week into blocks of time that make sense. In the first, focus on work; in the second, pay more attention to family, etc. You'll soon feel more balanced by shifting from one kind of thing to another regularly.
Use Your Calendar
Finally, try using an app or calendar to manage your life. If you're having trouble making sure you hit all the important things in a day to keep yourself in balance, start scheduling those things that are easy to miss, such as time exercising or getting enough sleep. By creating a routine that allows you to work, play, spend time with those important to you, and still take care of yourself, you'll find it much easier to stay balanced.
Remember, the key to all these techniques is intentionality. You have to set out to create variety in your day purposefully. It'll get easier as you go, so hang in there. You really can master the fine art of a work-life balance!
