#84: 5 Ways to Get Back into Balance at Work!
Are you feeling you haven't been as productive at work as you would like?
Do you feel like you're spending all your time doing only one or two things at work to the exclusion of everything else?
Are deadlines slipping past while you're throwing yourself at something else? If any of this sounds familiar, it might be because your work life is out of balance.
We need balance in all areas of our life if we want to succeed. But there's more to living a balanced life than having good divisions between work and the rest of your life.
While you're at work (or at home), it can become straightforward to focus too much on one task over another, skewing even that portion of your life out of balance.
To find balance again at work, you might want to try these quick tips:
Remove Distractions
If there's one thing that you always seem to be fussing at, such as checking emails, try setting some limits to keep this from taking over your day. Try setting aside specific times for these tasks or limiting how often you do them.
Practice "No"
Not everything you're asked to do at work is something you need to agree to. The idea is to avoid getting too caught up in doing things for others. Protect your projects by picking and choosing when requests like this are made. It is okay to say 'no' if you need to.
Organize Your Day
If you have a variety of things you need to get done, make sure you have a chance to tackle all of them by being intentional about how you use your time. Set up blocks of time for each task, or try scheduling your day to ensure you're not neglecting things you need to do.
Schedule Breaks
Sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself is to take a moment to breathe. This is especially true if you do many of the same kinds of tasks during the day. Having a few moments to switch gears and move around a little helps you to re-energize and feel ready to tackle the rest of the day.
Find Your Fun
The best jobs are where you can find ways to enjoy yourself while working. Whether this means making some work friends you can talk to during the day or finding ways to build micro-challenges to keep things interesting, this will help your day feel like there's more to it.
The thing to remember about keeping your workday in balance is you need to be intentional about how you spend your time. Pay attention to these details, and your day will feel more balanced.
